Health & Safety Policy

We consistently strive for exemplary environmental performance as we believe that it is a central part of being a responsible corporate citizen. We, therefore, aspire to do Zero Harm to the environment in all locations where we operate.

We are committed to:

  • Protect and sustain the environment for future generations.
  • Comply with all environmental legislation and regulative requirements in the jurisdictions in which we operate.
  • Minimize pollution in all our workplaces.
  • A sustainable approach to what we do, understanding how our role affects the environment locally and globally.

We seek to minimize the impact of our work on the environment in a way that has a positive impact.

Sensitive and sensible management: Managing vegetation alongside the railway servitude is vital for the safety of passengers, train crew, and our employees. It is a perfect example of the delicate balance required to optimise rail operations while being considerate of our line side neighbours and the environment. Wherever possible we use energy and natural resources efficiently and responsibly so as to contribute to a low carbon footprint, and to reduce, reuse and recycle any waste.

Positive changes: In managing the environment, we plan for the longer term – drawing on our years of experience, as well as new and innovative technology to repair and protect the rail network in the face of environmental changes, as our weather resilience and climate change section shows.

Thinking about the future is important not only for understanding the impact of climate change but also in terms of how our day-to-day work impacts wildlife where we operate.
