Mirai Rail Corporation has three broad areas of focus that provide tailored rail solutions: Rail Infrastructure Health, Rolling Stock and Rail Projects.

Rail Infrastructure Health

We are committed to the local manufacture and supply of rail products and materials that ensure the optimal health of railway infrastructure. Through our majority ownership of Voestalpine VAE SA, the global leading supplier of complete railway systems, we offer a range of materials such as rails, turnouts, mountings, and sleepers to digital services such as monitoring of rail tracks and trains from a single source.

Our facility in Isando, Johannesburg manufactures turnout system solutions. We supply wooden and manufacture steel sleepers for various fastening systems and manufacture and supply over 100 profiles of railway rails including crane rails. We offer a flash butt welding service for various rail profiles at our facility in Kimberley, South Africa – the only one of its kind on the African continent. Our custom-made cranes enable the loading process of 240 metre rails to happen at a fast rate.

We operate a number of on-track maintenance machines that are used for the rehabilitation and maintenance of the railway infrastructure network. These machines are used with the primary objective of minimising maintenance costs over a railway’s lifetime in a manner that extends traffic safety and rail service life. Our approach ensures low operating costs while also meeting the required maintenance cycle for rail traffic.

The machines are suitable for use on freight and passenger lines including the mining rail network and private siding railway infrastructure. Our machines include track geometry and ultrasonic machines, tamping machines (high production and low production), milling machines (open line and turnouts) and a sleeper replacement machine. We pride ourselves with our knowledge and experience in track maintenance and maintain in-house support capacity.

Rolling Stock

General Stock & Refurbishment

We perform the general overhaul and refurbishment of locomotives, wagons, and coaches. We also execute ad hoc maintenance for both in and out of service, in the field coaches, and motor coaches for passenger rail services. We manufacture mechanical materials and refurbish, rebuild, general overhaul, and perform in-service and out-of-service maintenance for both electric and diesel locomotives and wagons as well as several other rolling stock components.

Minor & Major Wheel Repairs

We perform minor and major wheel repairs to locomotive, coach and wagon fleets at our fully equipped CNC wheel lathe and sophisticated wheel maintenance equipment.

Maintenance Service Consultancy & Engeneering Services

We offer maintenance service consultancy and engineering services capabilities and expertise and assistance in the operations and in the operating of rolling stock in both freight and passenger rail services.

Componet Manufacture, Part Sales & Component Repairs

We supply maintenance and critical spares to customers, source components for all types of locomotives and upgrade locomotive components, and repair and refurbish faulty components, both electrical and mechanical. Mirai Rail Rolling Stock is an ISO 9001/2015 accredited company that operates in an approved Rail Safety Regulator siding in Elandsfontein, Germiston.
